Your taste buds will thank you for attending the three-day Master Chef Classic at Beaver Creek. It's the 13th year for the affair which offers cooking classes, an après-ski cocktail seminar, a chefs challenge, and a Grand Tasting. Dates are Jan. 27-29, 2011.
Paul Jowdy of Bon Appetit magazine calls the event a destination culinary adventure. "This upscale destination with world class ski terrain sets the perfect backdrop for top chefs to lure epicureans."
One of the highlights is the Master Chef Challenge at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek Village. A local chef is paired up on stage with a nationally-renowned guest chef. Jen Brown with Beaver Creek says it is a large, vivacious audience. "The chefs are under the gun. They have time limits and they're given certain ingredients. It's really fun to watch. The audience really gets into it." The competition starts at 7 p.m. Friday night, Jan. 28.
The Grand Tasting is Saturday night at the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch. Brown adds, "It is the culmination of the seminars, and a celebration of the culinary delights that all of these amazing chefs produce."
The three-day event is Jan. 27-29. It's a public event so tickets are on sale. Different packages are available, some of which include lodging and lift tickets, starting at $522 per person. Or you can do the Just A Taste Package for $165 which includes tickets for the Master Chef Challenge and the Grand Tasting. A portion of the proceeds from the Master Chef Dinner go to benefit the Bright Future Foundation.
