Morzine has launched a seven-day activity programme "Morzine Aime Sa Montagne" Jan. 31-Feb. 4.
The week-long programme includes various activities so that visitors can enjoy many different facets of mountain life: sustainable development, off-piste excursions, apres-ski, and what goes on behind the scenes at a ski resort.
"We wanted to show visitors a different side of the mountain, something other than just downhill skiing," the Morzine tourism office told OnTheSnow. "It's all part of our new way of promoting the resort, with the idea that at Morzine, you can live authentic moments."
Since the resort aims particularly to promote sustainable development, the week includes the showing of several green-themed films, an exhibit on man's impact on the mountain, and a guided hike to discover local plants and animals.
Visitors also can discover what goes into running a ski resort with a visit to an artificial snow production site, grooming and lifesaving demonstrations, and a chance to accompany the ski patrol to open the pistes in the morning.
Other activities include a gourmet evening in an Alpine chalet, night skiing, off-piste ski lessons, Nordic walking, and more.
The sustainable development and backstage ski resort activities are free. All other activities start at €20 per person.
