Stowe Mountain Resort is teaming up with popular mobile gaming app SCVNGR to provide a new way for skiers and riders to experience the mountain this winter.

"It's a mobile app all about going places, doing challenges and earning points," says Anna Farnum, who is familiar with the project.. "The app has over half a million users, and has partnered with ... the Boston Celtics to National Geographic to Coke, so it's big news that Stowe is the first ski mountain to join forces with SCVNGR (that's "scavenger' without the vowels).

"Skiers and riders can play Stowe-themed challenges on SCVNGR to win sweet prizes, like lift tickets and Stowe Points Cards. The challenges provide a fun way for skiers and riders to engage with everything the mountain has to offer while rewarding loyal visitors. By integrating technology to enhance visitors' experience, Stowe's partnership with SCVNGR will serve as an example for other ski mountains in the industry to follow," Farnum said.

The SCVNGR website states: "Perfect snow conditions and short lift lines aren't the only things that will get skiers and riders running to the slopes this season! With the ski season officially here, Stowe Mountain Resort is the first ski mountain to join forces with SCVNGR.

"Stowe is bringing game dynamics to the slopes by building fun Stowe-themed challenges on SCVNGR's customizable social game engine. Challenges like sharing the name of a favorite Stowe trail or sending in a report of ski conditions will earn players points towards unlocking special Stowe Badges."
