Traverse City, dubbed the Queen City of northern Michigan, through the Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering a TC Escape package with midweek nightly lodging rates starting from $35 per person.
The lodging package, good through the winter, combines special low rates at participating hotels and motels with a wide range of discounts on winter recreation, shopping, dining and entertainment. Weekend rates start from $60 per night. All rates are based on double occupancy.
For winter sports enthusiasts, the packages include discounts on lift tickets, ski lessons and equipment at nearby Shanty Creek for downhill skiing and riding and Timber Ridge Nordic Area for cross-country skiing. Shanty offers 53 runs on two ski hills, three terrain parks, a halfpipe, tubing and cross-country skiing on groomed trails with a portion of them lit for night skiing.
Mount Holiday, located on the east side of the city, offers 12 runs, a terrain park, tubing park, and two chairlifts. and three surface tows. It combines scenic views of East Bay and affordable lift tickets; $18 to $25 for children under 11 and $20 to $30 for older children and adults.
Hickory Hills is a throwback to a time when rope tows ruled. There are five of them and more than a handful of slopes and runs that the kids love. It's like a big terrain park, and lift tickets are very reasonable.
There are also discounts on snowmobile rentals and deals at some of the area's best restaurants. Other special discounts are included for shopping, spa treatments, movies, and wine tasting. Each adult guest also receives $10 in free play at either of the area's two casinos.
Traverse City, located at the bottom of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay, is surrounded by tall hills, state and national forests, and receives around 120-inches of snow each winter. Downtown on a snowy night is like stepping into a Currier & Ives print.
