While Big Mountain's summit has seen over 200 inches of snowfall this year, the resort opted for a human-made snow base in the pipe - due to its better consistency and less air. After blowing snow outside the pipe, crews pushed it into the pipe for shaping. How much snow does it take to fill a 450-foot long superpipe that's 68 feet wide and has 18-foot transitions from the flat bottom to the lip? 600,000 cubic feet! After spit-shining with a Zaugg pipe-cutter, it's ready for business. Time for an Alley Oop or two.
