The last two weeks in January bring an annual festival to the town of Jasper and Marmot Basin. Jasper In January returns with reduced rates in lift tickets, accommodation deals, and events.

Jasper In January takes place Jan. 15-30. Ticket rates for Marmot Basin drop for the two weeks. Tickets for ages 13 through adults will cost $56 CAN instead of $59 for youth and students or $74 for adults. Multi-day tickets are also available at $56 per day.

Lodging properties in Jasper charge off-season rates in winter. But accommodations during the annual Jasper In January festival discount rooms and offer special packages. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, for instance, offers rooms at a 20 percent discount.

Jasper In January launches Jan. 14 with a kick off party at the Whistle Stop Pub and wraps up with the Snow Ball Grand Finale Jan. 29 at Papa George's Restaurant. More than 30 events take place during the festival, including dog sledding demos, outdoor ice skating, bar parties, and live music. Festival events at Marmot Basin include a scavenger hunt Jan. 16 and Tea at the Top Jan. 26.

The highlight family event of the festival takes place Jan. 22 with the Kokanee street party around Jasper. The party features food specials, kid's games, live music, exhibits, and family-friendly activities including a free outdoor street dance.
