Arapahoe Basin's winter line-up of Black Mountain Lodge Dinners feature food and wine from all over the world, taking place on those majestic full-moon nights. Reservations are limited, so get registered and plan for a feast.
Spend New Year's Eve celebrating atop A-Basin. Ride the new Black Mountain Express chairlift to the lodge, and warm up with a toasty cordial. An iced seafood assortment will tempt you with shrimp, scallops, tuna tartar, and caviar with blini. The Grande Buffet will feature charbroiled filet mignon and butter poached lobster tail in addition to a variety of soups and salads. Toast to 2011 with a glass of champagne followed by chocolate-covered strawberries and other sweets. Download with a bag of party favors and a content stomach.
Work up an appetite skinning to the lodge during the inaugural German Feast and Randonnée event Jan. 19. Start with a warming aperitif then move to the hors d'oeuvres buffet of European grilled sausages, air-dried meats and cheeses, and hearth-baked breads. The Bavarian buffet begins with oxtail soup and a variety of salads and side dishes. Entrees will include chef-carved roast pork with sauerkraut and spätzle, sauerbraten with brown butter noodles, and beer-braised chicken with red cabbage. End the evening with homemade apple strudel and caramel custard pear tarts. Wines are available to purchase online in advance or the evening of the event. Dinner will include beers from Sierra Nevada Brewery to pair with your meal.
The first of three full-moon snowshoe dinners features an evening in the Andes with food from Argentina and Chile taking place Feb. 19. A fusion of flavors and textures from a variety of grilled meats (Parrilla) with chimichurri sauce, pastas, fresh produce, and cheeses will highlight the menu. The meal also includes wines from these regions available to purchase online in advance or the evening of the event.
March 19 travels to the breathtaking Dolomites for a night of Italian cuisine. Start your evening at the antipasti station with a variety of cheeses, air-dried meats, and other treats to tempt your appetite. Entrees will include Chianti-braised short ribs, and chef-carved elk served "Gulyás-style" with polenta. A variety of pasta and sauce combinations will also be served. Finish your evening with tiramisu, cannoli, and other intriguing sweet bites. A good line up of Italian wines will be available to purchase online in advance or the evening of the event.
A-Basin's snowshoe dinner series concludes April 16 with tapas-style foods from all over Spain. The evening in the Pyrenees begins with cheeses-Manchego, Cabra al Vino, and Ibérico Curado-served with Quince Paste and Marcona Almonds. Entrees will include tuna skewers with caperberries and olives, classic paella marinara, roast duck with pear and Pierna de Cordero Asado, or roast leg of lamb. Finish the night with sweet bites like orange flan, almond torte, and churros paired with hot chocolate. A variety of Spanish wines will be available to purchase online in advance or the evening of the event.
Full moon dinners are accessed by riding Black Mountain Express chairlift to the lodge followed by a snowshoe, hike, or download return to the base. Each snowshoe dinner price varies, and all include a cash bar.
