Soda Springs designed Planet Kids just for young children. The kids fun zone has become so popular that the resort moved it to a new location this winter and expanded its terrain.
Planet Kids is chock full of snow play adventures for children ages 8 and younger, but parents visit, too. Parents are required to supervise their children, which gives an opportunity to play with their kids.
General Manager Jody Church told OnTheSnow that about one-third of the visitors to Soda Springs head to Planet Kids. "It's hugely popular," she said. "I got the idea visiting a couple resorts in Austria, where they had full interaction with parents helping kids. It's really more like a petting zoo, not like dropping kids off at daycare with instructors."
New free sleigh rides cart parents and children to Planet Kids in its new location at Soda Springs. The unique kids snow play area features two huge tubing carousels, two moving carpets for skiing and snowboarding, a snow volcano for climbing, mini-tubing lanes, and a mini-snowmobiles on a track for kids ages 6-12.
Coaches are available to help with skiing and snowboarding, and the equipment-skis, boots, and snowboards-are available at Planet Kids. Children ready for a chair lift lesson with a professional instructor can upgrade to add a 30-minute lesson offered three times daily.
Planet Kids costs $25 per child. The entry fee includes all activities and equipment, including helmets for riding mini-snowmobiles. Lesson upgrades cost $25.
Children should come properly dressed for snow play. Planet Kids is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Weekend and holiday hours extend until 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It operates daily through Jan. 2.
