There's College Week, Jan. 3-7, for college students that aren't due back in class quite yet. All a student has to do is show a valid college ID and receive lodging and lift ticket deals.
Silver Streak Week takes place Jan. 10-14 for the little older crowd Silver steakers, 62 and older, ski and ride free Monday through Friday, and lodging deals are also available.
Sardine Specials are available Jan. 8 and again over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Jan. 17. Pack as many friends as you can into your car and pay one price for everyone to receive a Schuss Mountain lift ticket. The cost is $100 on the 8th and only $90 on the holiday. No busses please.
The Beer & Boards Microbrew Festival takes place the weekend of Jan. 22-23. Enjoy some of Michigan's best microbrews while chatting with the brewers after skiing and riding.
Midweek ski packages at Shanty Creek start from $62 per person, per night, based on double occupancy, which includes complimentary skiing and riding the night of arrival, as well as the next day. Children eight and under ski/ride free, and children under 12 eat free when staying with parents in January.
Weekend activities in January include dog sled rides, $20 per ride, and horse-drawn sleigh rides, $12 per rider.
Shanty offers 53 runs on two ski hills, three terrain parks, a halfpipe, tubing and cross-country skiing on groomed trails with a portion of them lit for night skiing.
