Lodging in the Maggie Valley and Waynesville, N.C., are teaming up with Cataloochee Ski Area to offer free lodging and free skiing to kids 17 and under this winter.

The program is called Kids Stay Free, Kids Ski Free and sounds pretty good.

Here are the rules: Children 17 and under can stay overnight free at a participating Haywood County Accommodations on any non-holiday Sunday through Thursday evening and ski free at Cataloochee Ski Area on any non-holiday Monday through Friday, when accompanied by an adult.

Caveats: The child will receive a free lift ticket at when with a parent who buys a full price adult day, twilight, or night lift ticket. Parents must stay at a participating Haywood County accommodation to receive the voucher to be redeemed at Cataloochee.

Accompanying adults must be 21 years old or older to qualify. Offer is not valid with any other discount programs. Holidays are Dec. 18 to Jan. 2; Jan. 14 to 17; and Feb. 18 to 21.

Cataloochee has 14 slopes - including two new trails, a quad chair, a triple, a double and two conveyors, a vertical drop of 740 feet, 25 acres of skiable terrain with 100 percent snowmaking coverage, and 10 slopes lighted for night skiing.
