The ski season in Colorado continues to break records and wow even those local residents with the longest memories. Resorts are opening with impressive snowfall totals and number-of-runs ready to ski and ride. Powderhorn is soon to be the next resort added to this list of impressive Colorado statistics.

Powderhorn is set to open Dec. 16. The resort has been reporting excellent conditions already present and continued snowfall is padding an impressive base. Rumors abound straight from the top that an early opening could serve as a special holiday treat for Grand Junction, Colo. locals.

"Opening Day is currently set for December 16 - but, watch the Web site for updates," says Powderhorn telephone headquarters. E-mails were sent out Dec. 2 reporting 15 inches of new snow that week enabling potential early opening.

"There's snow in the forecast, and that will lend to the possible early opening," Powderhorn's Sarah Allen told OnTheSnow. "The last storm that came through was only supposed to give us a little bit of snow, and instead, we got 18 inches."

You can be among the first to ski or ride Powderhorn's 1600 acres within the Grand Mesa area. Take advantage of early season deals going on, including the Tailgate Party and Stay & Play Specials. book any room at the Inn at Wildewood Dec. 15 for $70. Located just steps from the base, the Wildewood allows you to sleep in and still brag about making the morning's first turns.

The lift tickets can be exchanged for cross-country or snowshoe rental packages for those looking for a different Alpine adventure.
