The Ruby Hill Rail Yard is up and running to the delight of boarders and riders who might not be able to make it to the mountains for some time on the snow. No lift ticket needed! The park is free. Denver donated 750,000 gallons of water for more snowmaking; Winter Park is in charge of volunteers who helped put the rail yard together and will help with maintenance. The first weekend had about 150 riding the rails, with sponsors giving local kids free gear to use. The city hopes the park will last through February, if the cold temperatures stick around. Ruby Hill Rail Yard is between West Florida and Jewell Avenues, and between South Platte River Drive and Quivas Street. It's open every day from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
