Seefeld offers a wealth of spectator sports this year, with its Skitour Night Race, Dog-Sleigh Race, and Nordic Combination World Cup.
Hundreds of ski tour fans are set to make the pilgrimage to the Seefeld Skitour Night Race Dec. 18. The race is hosted by the Seefeld Ski Club at the Seefeld Rosshütte. Fitted with head torches, participants must conquer altitude differences of approximately 504 metres and 702 metres over two different courses. The complete courses are marked out with torches and the start and finish areas are well lit. There also is the option of watching the race from the Rosshütte mountain restaurant.
The third International Dog-Sleigh Race is Jan. 6-9. It includes everything from skijoring (a competitor is dragged on skis behind the dogs) to the Pulka categories (the dogs pull on a sled which is connected via a line to a skier). A highlight of the dog-sleigh race is planned for Thursday, Jan. 6 when 100 teams from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic will race against each other in the snow.
More than 15,000 visitors are expected to flock to Seefeld to watch the Nordic Combination World Cup Jan. 14-16. The Casino Arena in Seefeld offers all spectators the chance of seeing the ski jumping on the Toni Seelos Olympic ski jump in Seefeld and the team and single competitions close up.
