The Summit At Snoqualmie punched in an early start this winter, thanks to a major snowstorm prior to Thanksgiving. The resort provides one of the easiest places to learn to ski or ride, due to its close location to the Seattle metropolitan area.
The resort opened Summit West for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, closed, and then reopened Dec. 1. Lifts will start running at Alpental and Summit Central base areas as snow permits. Crews are finishing up installation of the new Summit East lifts, which are scheduled to begin operation Dec. 26 at the latest.
Lessons are already being offered at the resort to get newcomers on the slopes. The resort sits right on I-90, less than one hour from many locations in the Seattle area and an easy hop for beginners who may be unaccustomed to winter mountain driving.
Teen and adult beginners can get on the slopes with the EZ 2 Learn program. The program packages up three days of lessons, lift tickets, and rental gear, but participants can choose the days, which can be used any time throughout the season. The lessons do not need to taken three days in a row and can be mixed between two resort locations.
EZ 2 Learn, which costs $199 per person, is available for those who want to ski or snowboard. Each lesson lasts 1:45 in duration. The tickets are valid only for beginner lifts. Participants must be at least 12 years old.
The daily lessons are available from Summit Central or Summit West. Lessons on the first day are offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in early December. A 3 p.m. lesson is added after the season picks up, and a 7 p.m. lesson is offered Wednesdays through Saturdays and holidays at Summit Central. Lessons for the second and third days meet at 1 p.m.
Beginners need to arrive at the resort at least one hour in advance of the lesson. Participants in EZ 2 Learn sign up in the rental shop. Reservations are not required.
