Resorts in North Lake Tahoe are giving beginners a chance to get into skiing or snowboarding before Christmas. Five resorts are offering the annual Learn to Ski and Board Weekend Dec. 11-12.

Novices can pick up a beginner lift ticket, group lesson, and equipment rental for $25. The lift ticket and rentals are good for all day while the lesson runs two hours or less. The lift tickets are for beginner lifts only.

Alpine Meadows, Boreal Mountain Resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley USA, and Sugar Bowl Resort are planning to participate in the weekend special for beginners. Most of the resorts are already open for skiing and riding. Granlibakken Resort and Homewood Mountain Resort may also participate in the weekend special if they open; if not, they may schedule the special at a later date.

Reservations are not required for participants. But beginners should call the resort to check on lesson times and plan to arrive an hour prior to the lesson to allow time to purchase the lesson package, get rentals, and meet the class on the slope.

Most of the resorts offer at least two options for lessons each day-one lesson scheduled in the morning and one in the afternoon. The $25 learning package is available for skiing or snowboarding. Some restrictions may apply, such as minimum ages.
