Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont's Green Mountains hosts two top competitions this winter, the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships and the U.S. Freestyle National Championships.
Stratton traditionally kicks off its season over Thanksgiving weekend, and ends with pond skimming in late spring.
The hallmark event of Stratton's winter is the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships March 7-15 where the world's best snowboarders compete in halfpipe and slopestyle. The event is the culmination of the Burton Global Open Series, with stops in New Zealand, Europe, Canada, Asia, and Vermont.
Stratton also is hosting the U.S. Freestyle National Championships March 22-27 which will bring the country's top skiers to compete in moguls, aerials, halfpipe, and dual moguls.
The kickoff weekend, Nov. 25-29, includes the 5th annual Gobble Gobble Wobble 5K Family Fun Run Nov. 25; a Village Fashion Show Nov. 26; and the opening celebration fireworks and Village Rail Jam Nov. 27.
Stratton is four-season, upscale, and beautiful. The Stratton Country Club golf course ranks among the most beautiful mountain courses in America, and in winter becomes the resort's Nordic center. The Stratton village has a European flavor to it and comes alive with an eclectic mix of shops. Lodging is scattered all over the resort with hundreds of condominiums, lodge rooms, Tyrolean-style hotels, and private homes.
