Alyeska Resort opens this week, giving Anchorage area skiers and riders a leap into the season. The lifts begin turning Nov. 24, and skiers and riders can still purchase 10-day transferable passes for discounted lift tickets.
The resort launches into opening day with more than 100 inches of snowfall in some places on the mountaintop. But Alyeska is known for big snows, accumulating more than 500 inches mid-mountain and 600 inches at the mountaintop on average.
Daily lift operations begin at 10:30 a.m. and run until 5:30 p.m. Night skiing, which extends hours until 9 p.m., runs Dec. 18-Jan.1 for the holidays and Jan. 6-March 26.
The Alyeska Ski and Snowboard Bus, which runs most weekends, starts up Dec. 18. The bus is available from Anchorage or Eagle River. A roundtrip bus and lift ticket combo are being added this winter.
Ten X Powder Passes, available for purchase until the end of the season, offer a transferable pass option to save money on lift tickets. The direct-to-lift pass, valid for 10 days of skiing, is limited in use to one person per day, but has no blackout dates.
The new midweek pass costs $400 while the pass valid anytime costs $450. Lift tickets at the resort cost $55-60, but the Ten X Powder Passes reduce the rate to $40-45. The passes may be reloaded if the 10 days get used, and unused days this year may be applied as a credit toward next year's pass. The passes are available for purchase online.
