Arosa kicks off the winter season Dec. 2 with Switzerland's largest comedy and cabaret festival. The 10-day Arosa Comedy Festival has marked the start of winter in Arosa for almost 20 years.

Past acts at the Comedy Festival include famous Swiss artists such as the Acapickels, the Fischbach duo, Gardi Hutter, Marco Rima, Massimo Rocchi and Ursus & Nadeschkin, as well as international acts, such as Josef Hader, Michael Mittermeier, Dieter Nuhr, Gerhard Polt, and Helge Schneider.

Graubünden's biggest comedy event doesn't take place in the resort centre, but higher up, in a circus marquee erected specially for the festival in the middle of the skiing area, near the Tschuggenhütte. Arosa does more than just welcome the big names of the comedy and cabaret circuit - it also offers a platform for rising stars. Those heading up the mountain to watch the new talent can reach the marquee on foot instead of by mountain railway, and can sledge or ski back down to the village.

The traditional resort of Arosa is open Dec. 2 to April 18. It enjoys a long snow-sure season and plenty of sunshine thanks to its position at 1800 metres.

The resort features 70 kilometres of pistes set between 1800 and 2650 metres with a maximum vertical of 910 metres. There are also 25 kilometres of cross-country ski trails.
