One of the prime times to try out the newest equipment for skiing, snowboarding, and backcountry travel comes at the annual All Mountain Demo in Utah's Wasatch Mountains.
This year's one-day event will be held for the first time at Solitude Mountain Resort, after a half-dozen years at Snowbasin. The on-the-hill equipment demonstration will be held Jan. 19 at the lower end of the Moonbeam parking lot, near the base of the Eagle Express lift. Buyers can check out the latest in equipment and gear for free.
"It's going to be great exposure for us, getting everybody up on our mountain on that day," said Nick Como, spokesman for the resort up Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The All Mountain Demo runs in conjunction with the annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. The three-day retail industry show showcases equipment, clothing, and other products that will hit the winter-sport retail stores the following year. The participants in the demonstration day typically own and work at these stores, so the event gives them a firsthand look and feel at what's coming up, said Como.
The annual trade show attracted nearly 17,000 attendees in 2010 for a wide variety of activities, including a fashion show, business seminars, and backcountry instruction.
