Villars-Gryon is improving its ski area this year with more environmentally friendly skiing and a new mountain restaurant.

An eight-kilometre stretch of piste between Villars and Gryon will open in December with 85 environmentally friendly snow canons. The canons will be powered using water from a new artificial lake built in Chaux. The machines are constructed with the latest technology to optimise water and electricity consumption.

A traditional Swiss restaurant will open this year: the former mountain stable on Les Chaux-Sodoleuvre piste has been turned into the L'Etable restaurant. It will serve typical local dishes with a sun terrace and barbecue area.

Villars-Gryon is also offering significant savings for families. Children under the age of 9 can benefit from free skipasses, ski lessons, rentals, and lunch on the weekend of Dec. 11-12. Adults and teenagers can buy all of the above for CHF10-25 throughout the weekend. Several hotels will also be taking part by offering reduced rates. There will also be a range of entertainment on the pistes, including music, games, and competitions.

Families can also enjoy two free sites in Villars-Gryon: the Alpage de Frience with bobsled lift, mini ski lift, sleds and toboganning; and Cergement with a terrace, sled run, and bobsled lift.
