Chestnut Mountain, located along rugged bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River near Galena, is offering $15 lift tickets from opening day through Dec. 18. Opening day weather permitting is slated to take place Friday, Nov. 26.
The resort is also offering an early season lodging package to go along with the discounted lift rates.
"All of our hotel rooms, from Nov. 26 through Dec. 16, will be $109, plus tax based on double occupancy. That's per room, not per person," marketing director Stewart Stoffregen told OnTheSnow. "A two-night stay is required on weekends."
It's a good deal to kick off the season for Chicagoland skiers and riders. Chestnut Mountain is just outside Galena, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the Windy City. The resort's 450-room hotel overlooks the Mississippi River and ski area.
Chestnut opened for the season last year in early December, but the year before opened on schedule, the day after Thanksgiving. Chestnut has opened five of the last eight years in November, and the other three years opened within the first three days of December.
Chestnut recently completed a large snowmaking expansion, which provides the resort with the capability to fully open with less than 48 hours of snowmaking. If the weather is cold enough conditions should be magnificent, just look for a small blizzard hanging over the bluff. You should be able to see it from Dubuque, Iowa.
