The SnowJam Ski and Snowboard Show returns once again to Las Vegas, Nov. 19-21. Those looking for trips to the slopes this winter can use it as a venue for planning as resorts show up with information on lodging, packages, and travel advice.
Last year, 18,000 people attended the three-day event to find out what's happening at resorts. About 25-30 resorts attend the show, including the local Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. You can stop by to pick up information on lesson programs, rentals, and the ski bus.
Other visiting resorts include Mammoth Mountain, Tahoe ski areas, and Utah resorts. Two British Columbia resorts--Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort -- will be attending the show the promote flights between Las Vegas and Kelowna. "There's lots of stickers and shwag," Tim Hackett, one of the show's organizers, told us. "Kids keep busy picking up trinkets while parents shop around for winter trips."
The show also includes a gear sale. "The reason people show up is the sale," Hackett said. "Three of four guys spend the off-season searching for products and snatching up deals from returns, overproduction, and stores going out of business. It's all brand new stuff, just last year's. Nobody leaves empty handed."
SnowJam Preferred Cards are on sale at the show for $15. The cards give discounts on lift tickets, such as a half-price midweek ticket at Brian Head Resort, a midweek discount at Las Vegas, and a buy-one-day-get-the-next-day-free at Mammoth. Those who purchase the card online in advance can get into the show for free and save $10 in the gear sale.
SnowJam is scheduled Nov. 19-21, running 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The show takes place in Cashman Field Center, north of downtown.
Admission costs $15 at the door. Kids 12 years old and younger are admitted free.
