Got skis piling up in the garage? It might be time to swap them out to make room for new gear. You can do so at Ski Dazzle, the Sacramento Ski Show and Snowboard Expo, Nov. 20-21. The annual expo returns to town with freebies, discounts, a gear swap, sale, and an indoor rail jam to get you pumped up for the season.

Judy Gray, one of the owners and producers of Ski Dazzle, told us she expects around 18,000 people to attend the Sacramento show. Those attending the show can get a free lift ticket to either Sugar Bowl Resort or Dodge Ridge or a two-for-one lift ticket valid at one of five Tahoe resorts. Choose among Alpine Meadows,  Dodge Ridge, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Homewood Mountain Resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe, or Sierra-at-Tahoe for the two-for-one tickets. All of the tickets have restrictions on use, which may include early season deadlines, blackout dates, or midweek use during a specific time period.

Attendees at the Sacramento show also get retailer bonuses. "Retailer bonuses are unique to the Sacramento show," said Gray. "The best part is that they can be used over and over." Discounts up to 25 percent are available at Land Park Ski and Sports until April 15 on rentals and on single regular priced items until Jan. 31.

The show is all about shopping. One million dollars worth of new merchandise is available with some gear up to 70 percent off. The swap provides used gear at inexpensive prices. "The sales allow people to get in and stay in the sport," said Gray.

The Ski Dazzle Swap takes used skis, snowboards, boots, and other hard goods to sell at 21 percent commission. Leave the beat up gear home, for equipment must be in decent condition. Gear, which can only be registered for the sale with admission, must be turned in 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Equipment submitted early has a better chance of selling.

This is one show where you can participate in the free entertainment. You can test dexterity on the climbing wall or show how fast you can install chains on tires. You can take a rail slide lesson from Sierra-at-Tahoe experts or enter the rail jam. The jam costs $35 to enter with free entrance to the show with the grand prize winner receiving a $1,500 Windells Camp.

The expo runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday. It takes place in Hall A and B at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento.

Tickets are available online or at the door. Tickets cost $15, but children 12 years old and younger get admitted free.
