Ohio snowboarders get ready for an early season rail jam Saturday, Nov. 6, at the LC Pavilion in downtown Columbus.

That's right.

There may not be a flake of snow in sight around the Buckeye State, but no worry. They are hauling in over 25 tons of shaved ice for the Capital Rail Jam, and it will be showcased with a guest appearance by Olympian Louie Vito. The event is being hosted by nearby Mad River Mountain where Vito started snowboarding at the age of five.

Throughout the day, riders can participate in a public rail session, which culminates with a Pro Demo and Open Rail Jam.  Riders will compete for over $3,000 cash.  The public rail sessions are from 1 to 6 p.m. The cash purse rail jam is from 6 to 8 p.m., and is limited to 100 participants.

Aspen Ski and Board and Quicksilver will showcase the latest styles for the new season with a snow apparel fashion show immediately following the rail jam.

Live entertainment will be provided Olympian snowboarder Trevor Andrew's band Trouble Andrew.

Entry fee is $20, which includes access to all events.

Mad River Mountain, near Bellefontaine, is hosting its big Ski Patrol Ski Swap, Sunday, Nov. 7.  Several local ski and snowboard retailers will transform the lodge into a giant ski shop stocked with lots of great deals on equipment and clothing.  The event begins at 11 a.m. Proceeds support the local ski patrol.
