For adults who never really learned how to ski, Châtel is launching the Youcanski programme. It is the first adult beginners' program and is meant to help older learners safely master the basics of skiing.

Youcanski is a package deal that includes group lessons with other beginner adults, lift passes, and gear hire (including a helmet) for either three or six days or, for locally-based clients, three consecutive weekends.

The experience takes place in designated beginner zones, away from the arrival of more advanced skiers, in specially-adapted areas.

The six-day or three-weekend packages are priced at €269 and the three-day midweek deal sells for €169.

These offers are valid from Dec. 18-25, Jan. 8-Feb. 12, and March 12 until the end of the season. Classes start on your choice of Sunday, Monday, or Friday.

Youcanski deals are also available in the other resorts of Les Portes du Soleil ski area. They must be pre-booked through the Web sites of the ski schools at the resort itself. Les Portes du Soleil includes 12 resorts in France and Switzerland: Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d'Aulps, Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, and Val d'Illiez.
