Schweitzer Mountain Resort added a new incentive for season passholders this year. The incentive helps passholders cut fossil fuel emissions. Skiers and riders need to buy Schweitzer season passes before the end of October for the best rates.

Season passholders this year will be allowed to ride the Mountain Express Bus free. The bus, which climbs nine curvy miles from Sandpoint, Idaho, to Schweitzer, used to require a fee that could be added onto a season pass. But not any longer.

"We want to encourage passholders to be environmentally responsible and not drive up here," spokesperson Dave Kulis told us. "It made a lot of sense to do it that way and include the ride free in the pass."

Schweitzer's season pass sale runs through Oct. 31 with some pass rate staying the same as last year. Passes may be purchased online, by phone, in person, or by mail. Junior passes for ages 7-17 cost $249, and adult passes for ages 18 and older cost $699. Both passes permit unlimited lift access. A Sunday through Friday pass is also available at $499. Rates after the sale jump up by $200-300.

College students get a break on the season pass deadline with an extension until Nov. 30. The college pass, valid every day of the season, costs $299 on sale. The rate goes up by $200 after the sale.
