Powderhorn is pairing up with local businesses in hopes to promote the resort through customers and employees within "The Business of the Week" program. Grand Junction area businesses may sponsor an entire week during the 2010-11 ski season in the program.

The Business of the Week pays $500 and receives four free lift tickets as well as discounts on additional tickets, lessons, food at the resort, lodging, and merchandise. Sponsors have the availability to host group lunch, dinner, or après parties. The businesses' logo and description will be added to Powderhorn's Web site as well as a logo posted on the Powderhorn marquee on Highway 65 throughout the week.

Promotion for the business will also appear through Powderhorn's marketing channels including radio, events calendar, e-mail newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter. Opportunity to place promotional material in the Base Lodge lobby also will be available for the sponsored business.

Grand Junction Subaru, Home Loan State Bank, Pepsi, and Crossroads Fitness have already signed on to the program.

"We've been working closely with Powderhorn on joint marketing for several years already," says Stacy Kelley of Home Loan State Bank. "I think that being a part of The Business of the Week program is that it is going to help raise awareness within our employees of the affiliate benefits."

Powderhorn is currently creating features for a new natural terrain park set to open this season. Skiers and riders will play on features ranging from beginner to advanced technical ability located within three terrain parks on the mountain. The features will be built from downed Aspen trees and other wood.

A November kickoff party will play host to a rail jam showcasing the features while giving park riders their first taste of competition for the season.
