Risoul, one of the resorts of the southern Alps' La Forêt Blanche ski area, is introducing new amenities for the coming ski season.
Skiers will be able to download a special iPhone application, surf the internet with station-wide wireless internet, and enjoy a new four-season sledge.
The iPhone application, available in French and English, offers users a more practical and more secure experience. It gives users access to all the essential information-which pistes are open, weather bulletins and forecasts, after-ski activities, and more-plus has a special off-piste menu. This allows skiers to consult conditions before deciding whether or not to venture off the pistes.
The application is available for download on Apple's iTunes Web site.
Those who need to be connected to the internet via a computer can take advantage of Risoul's wireless internet connection. This service covers 80 percent of the resort and users can purchase connection codes directly at the Risoul tourism office. Prices start at €5.
A new activity this year is the sledge ride: climb into a sledge at the bottom of the piste and be pulled up to the top. The machine releases it at the top and it zips down the 780-metre-long track. The course includes steep and gentle slopes, hairpin turns, zigzags, and sharp curves for a variety of sensations. Each sledge is equipped with a break so that riders can control their speed. One or two passengers can ride in a single sledge.
