Chestnut Mountain, perched on high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River near Galena, Ill., offers some of the best skiing and riding found in the Lower Midwest. The resort's season pass sale is underway through October 30 and prices won't get any lower.
Chestnut's Fill-A-Quad and Family season passes are currently on sale for $1,196.
The Family pass covers all children - immediate family - living at home up to 18 years of age and college students up to 22 living at home. The Fill-A-Quad pass, which averages $299 per person, must be purchased in blocks of four and are only available online. Purchase either of the passes prior to Oct. 15 and receive a free Chestnut Mountain $20 gift card for each person; limit of four.
A regular adult season pass is $450, and a child's (6-17) and senior (55-69) pass is $375. A senior midweek pass, valid Monday through Friday, is $225, and entitles you to 10-percent off cafeteria food purchases. An additional benefit is uncrowded slopes.
Any season pass holder can upgrade their pass to a Chestnut Value Pass, which entitles you to lodging discounts and discounts in the resort's restaurants, repair shops, and the Apparel Shop and free admission to concerts year round. During the summer it also entitles you to unlimited Alpine Slide rides and mini golf. The upgrade is $49.99 per pass.
Chestnut holds its annual Open House and Ski Swap Sunday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it's a great time to look for gear, according to Chestnut's Stewart Stofregan.
