All kids age 12 and under who take a scenic lift ride Oct. 9-10 at Sunrise Park Resort's Winter White-Out Sale can nab a free season pass good for the 2010-11 ski season.
The only catches are that each child must bring a can of non-perishable food for the local drive and recite one of the skier/snowboarder responsibility codes. A junior pass is valued at $380. The food is donated to local charities. Parents will be required to show proof of age and sign a Release of Liability for children receiving a pass.
Here's a cheatsheet, so you don't have to hunt for the code. Plus, it's a good refresher before you get on the slopes for the season: always stay in control; people ahead of you have the right of way; stop in a safe place for you and others; whenever starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield; use devices to help prevent runaway equipment; observe signs and warnings and keep off closed trails; and know how to use the lifts safely.
Early bird season pass rates run through Oct. 10 and so do the ski or snowboard deals.
The fall colors are pretty special too. Head over to the resort owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe and enjoy a scenic lift ride on the Sunrise Express Lift. The view of the White Mountains in full fall brilliance from the top of Sunrise Peak is well worth the trip. The lift will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9 and 10. Ticket prices are $10/adults, $5/children 12 & under. Two Restaurants, Chili Works offering fresh Mexican food and the Eagles Nest whose specialty is Fry Bread, will be open for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
