Saalbach-Hinterglemm has invested €8 million into revamping its ski area this year.
Skiers and snowboarders will benefit from an eight-seater gondola, the 'Unterschwarzach-Bahn', in December. This new gondola was constructed over summer and replaces the old T-bar lift near the funpark. It is complete with heated seats and can carry 2,400 people per hour up to the top station above the Gerstreit reservoir.
Additional improvements to the ski area includes better floodlighting on the night piste and a total reconstruction of the Hinterglemm Nightpark. Money also has been invested in the snow-making facilities and now snow canons line 90 percent of the slopes. The ski area has invested €204 million in ski lifts, pistes, and snow canons since 2000.
The official start of the winter season kicks off in Saalbach-Hinterglemm Dec. 3 this year and is celebrated with parties, live music, and ski testing of the latest models.
The Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski area features 200 kilometres of well-groomed slopes, 55 modern cableways and lifts, 10 kilometres of cross-country tracks, a funpark, GS race courses, a flood-lit slope, ungroomed moguls, and snowparks.
Pre-season ski passes, valid Dec. 3-22, for are sold at €34 per day for adults, €25.50 for teenagers, and €17 for children.
