United Airlines will have daily direct flights from Houston into the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, beginning in early 2011. Those flights from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport start after the busy holiday season, Jan. 4, and run through April 2.
Bill Tomcich, President of Stay Aspen/Snowmass, says the new direct flight improves connections. "In addition to making it easier than ever to fly between Houston and Aspen/Snowmass, this new route is also going to offer superb connections from Florida and across Latin America."
United is also scheduled to operate four daily non-stop flights from Chicago, three from Los Angeles, two from San Francisco, and 11 daily trips between Aspen and Denver. That's a total of 21 flights every day, in and out of the Aspen/Snowmass area.
The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is three miles from the slopes of Aspen Mountain, and even less from Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. The airport is seven miles from Snowmass Village. It is the closest airport to any ski resort in North America. It is easy to get to and from the airport as many lodging properties offer complimentary airport transfers. You'll also find taxis and the local bus service.
Aspen and Snowmass are scheduled to open Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25. Highlands and Buttermilk are set for a Dec. 11 opening.
