St. Anton am Arlberg kicks off its winter season Nov. 26 with a weekend of events and activities.
The Stanton Ski Open Weekend Nov. 26-28 is celebrated with an opening ceremony, ski testing of latest equipment from 15 brands, a fashion show Friday night, hot rhythms of the Mountain Mania Ö3, the XXL-Riesentorlauf slalom race, and a choice of workshops.
The XXL-giant slalom 'XXL-Riesentorlauf' takes place Saturday, Nov. 27 and is the longest giant slalom in the world. It offers skiers and snowboarders a three-kilometre challenge starting from Kapall and finishing at the World Cup stadium. Around 140 competitors leave the gates at 30-second intervals and race down through the forested slalom course.
The area always starts the ski season with discounted rates on lift tickets. During the Crystal Snow week, Nov. 26 to Dec. 3, ski passes cost €19.50 adults and €14.50 children.
The Arlberg region of Austria has an excellent snow record with a long reputation for offering skiing from late November right through to early May. The Arlberg ski area has a total of 85 state-of-the-art cable cars and lifts and 440 kilometres of terrain for all levels, including fun parks, carving areas, and racing circuits.
