New Mexico Goes Out With a Bang

While Red River and Angel Fire celebrated their season's final days this past week, Angel Fire closed with six inches of fresh snow. "This was the perfect ending to great season," said Jon Mahanna, general manager for Angel Fire Resort. "We experienced unseasonably warm temperatures these past few weeks, so this weekend's storm came just in time to make a strong finish." Meanwhile, the remainder of New Mexico's resorts are chugging along until April 8, including Ski Santa Fe, Ski Apache, and Sipapu, who dropped their lift tickets to $19. Taos received 15 inches in last weekend's storm. "The storm was slow to start," commented Seth Bullington, marketing manager, "but then we got hammered with eight inches in four hours." Spring prices are reduced at Taos: lift tickets have dropped to $30, and some lodges and restaurants are running half-price specials.
