Shanty Creek is one of the more unusual snow sports resorts in the Heartland.  It's a combination of classic and contemporary encased in forested hills with panoramic overlooks of Lake Bellaire and northern Michigan.  Its three villages and two ski hills offer a very European-like setting.  There isn't another setting quite like it anywhere around the Great Lakes.

The Summit Lodge, located on top of the slopes, overlooks Lake Bellaire.  Cedar River and Schuss Villages are spread out around the bottom of Schuss Mountain.  The villages, connected by trail systems and serviced by a very reliable transportation system, are located about two miles apart as the crow flies.  It's easy to get around and enjoy a great variety of terrain and scenery.

The resort is adding two new glade runs on the North Face of Schuss Mountain, which will access the red lift.  They are also creating a natural terrain park between Purple Daze and Village Way.  Friday nights will be lit up at Schuss this winter for the first time.  The resort has offered night skiing and ridging at the Summit slopes, but not at Schuss.

There is a contest underway to name one of the three new runs, which you can become a part of by following the link below.

Shanty Creek has added new rental equipment this year at its Snowsport Center, and included is a limited quantity of high-performance Élan skis, Nordica boots, and Rossignol snowboards.  You can call ahead to reserve the high-performance equipment, which will help speed up the rental process.
