The Denver Sportscastle and many others celebrate September with sales.

It's sale time in Colorado. This is when you want to get your gear ready for the season and make some upgrades and improvements. Colorado goes crazy with sales and thy spread to affiliated stores in other states.

Sniagrab is the granddaddy of them all. The bargain sale started in Colorado 56 years ago, and is now at all Sports Authority stores nationwide. It kicked off Labor Day weekend but the loot stays there for a long time.  Sniagrab is "Bargains" spelled backwards. Deals are up to 75 percent off on boards, skis, outerwear, and accessories.

The biggest collection is at the Denver Sportscastle and the Utah Sportscastle, with stores also throughout Washington State. Mountain towns such as Steamboat, Vail, Dillon, Avon, and Montrose have Sports Authority stores with sales as well. Those sales start Oct. 10. It's a party, too, with contests, prizes, and resort reps on hand to entice you to buy their season pass.

"For 56 years, this event just continues to amaze all of us. Where else do you find a sale that is so embraced year after year by shoppers?" says David Campisi, CEO, Sports Authority.  "We have dozens of ski resorts setting up tents, we have thousands of passers-by, and we have hundreds of people waiting in line to get unbelievable bargains on ski and snowboard equipment.  It really has become a tradition in Denver."

Look for the huge circus-style tent for the SKI REX sale at all four Colorado Ski & Golf and Boulder Ski Deals stores. It lasts through Sept. 19. This is also where parents snag the Junior Trade-In deal. Kids ages 4-18 can get a complete set of used equipment for $99.99. New set ups are available for $199.99. You get money back if you return it within a year. You can also recycle old gear at the SKI REX locations. Some will be donated while others will be shredded. SKI REX stores also offer custom boot fitting.

The other big sports chain is Christy Sports, with more than 40 locations in Colorado and Utah.Christy Sports offers the Powder Daze Ski & Snowboard Sale through mid-September.
