Val d'Isère kicks off its winter season Nov. 27 with the Premières Neiges event, bringing together gear tests, a wealth of activities, and ski deals.

The 2011 Ski Force Winter Tour sets up its test village on the snow front, where skiers and snowboarders will be able to test the latest gear for free. More than a dozen brands will be on site and a certified ski monitor can also accompany testers.

Various activities are planned for Saturday and Sunday afternoon and participants can watch a series of ski films Saturday night.

For the event, Val d'Isère is offering two package deals that include access to the activities, a two-day ski pass, two half-day with a monitor, and one admission to the swimming pool of the new athletic centre.

A two-night stay in an apartment starts at €99 per person and includes a lift pass for the Val d'Isère ski area. Alternatively, a package with hotel accommodation and an extensive Espace Killy lift pass starts at €181.

The Espace Killy ski area includes more than 300 kilometres of pistes for all levels, 90 ski lifts, two terrain parks, and two glaciers.
