Tignes is to host the Winter X Games for a second time this winter when it returns March 16-18, 2011.

Last year was the first time the Winter X Games was held outside the United States. Following last year's success, Tignes has decided to welcome the international event once again.

The three-day competition brought more than 66,000 spectators to the resort last season. The event was broadcast live in eight countries and distributed in more than 166 countries around the world.

For the second edition, the Winter X Games at Tignes plans to bring together more than 125 athletes from across the globe. They will participate in ski and snowboard SuperPipe and SlopeStyle competitions.

It is still to early to know the exact programme of the 2011 European edition. The full line-up should be available in early autumn and there is talk of an extra competition, probably a skicross or big air event, but the final choice depends on the organisers, ESPN, who are still looking for new budgets to be able to include a new competition.

The Winter X Games will also take place in Aspen, Colorado, in the USA, Jan. 27-31, 2011.
