Chamrousse is expanding the hillside levee near the Grenouille sector in order to creat a new dual-purpose body of water.
Located at Chamrousse 1650, near the Vernon building, the Grenouillère lake will give the resort a second water stockage area and will increase its artificial snow capacities in winter. In summer, the lake will become an area with several aquatic activities.
The Grenouillère lake will complement the Vallons lake, which was previously Chamrousse's only water reserve. With these two lakes, the resort will count 90,000 cubic meters of water that will feed the snow canons if necessary.
Chamrousse is taking particular care to make sure that the artificial lake will fit into the mountain landscape. The impermeable synthetic membranes will be totally invisibles to visitors because organic matter will completely cover them. The lake will thus become a part of the surrounding nature.
The resort broke ground on this project at the end of May 2010 and expects to finish construction mid-November. Chamrousse plans for the lake to be fully operational for the 2010-2011 ski season.
The lake will also include equipment that will make it a popular destination in the summer. Chamrousse plans to include bronzing decks, water games for children, areas for other aquatic activities, and fishing zones in or near the lake.
