Southern California skiers and snowboarders can now fly to the Tetons with less fuss. United Airlines added a nonstop flight from LAX to Jackson Hole Airport with no routing through other airport hubs. Rental cars and shuttles run from the airport to local resorts.
Daily flights hop between Los Angeles and Jackson Hole in two hours. Flights leave LAX at 11:35 a.m. and arrive in Jackson Hole at 2:31 p.m. Returning flights depart Jackson at 3:05 p.m. to arrive in Los Angeles at 4:18 p.m.
LA joins the growing list of cities that link to Jackson Hole with nonstop flights. Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, and Chicago have direct flights in to Jackson Hole Airport.
Visitors arriving by air have the option of using public transportation to get around the area. Rental cars are available at the airport, but those not used to driving snowy roads in stormy conditions may prefer shuttles and buses; plus, public transportation saves on gas and rental costs.
Taxis and shuttles run daily from the airport to Teton Village or Jackson for $16-26 one way. Those heading to Grand Targhee will pay a minimum of $150 one way for a taxi.
The START Bus connects Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and the town of Jackson to accommodate those getting to the slopes at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Snow King. One-way trips cost $3 with the bus running concurrent with lift operation hours and nightlife.
