Powder to the People

Resorts in this article: Alpine Meadows, Kirkwood, Northstar California, Sugar Bowl Resort

The hits just keep on coming. That's the way it's been in the Sierra the last week, when storm after Pacific storm dumped tons of powder on the range - Kirkwood says it received six feet of snow between last Thursday and Monday and more than two feet of snow reportedly fell on Sugar Bowl, Northstar and Alpine Meadows since early Sunday. Seemingly overnight, resorts were transformed from spring-like, somewhat marginal conditions to full-on powder meccas. And with snow levels around the 3,000-foot elevations, this ain't typical Sierra cement. It's time to pig out on powder - it has been a long time coming.
