When most resorts thought they had had enough, the first full week of February started with another Winter Storm Warning. Wolf Creek checked in with 26 inches of snow overnight. Also down south at Durango, Purgatory had 18 inches of snow in one day, after three feet in the first weekend of February. Crested Butte was calling it a "powderlicious" day with 16 inches of new snow.
In Steamboat, it's a "four-wire winter," which is how the local ranchers describe the snow. January was the second snowiest month on record with 129 inches of fresh Champagne Powder. The resort is already over the 27-foot mark for cumulative and there's still a few months to go. If the current weather pattern continues in Ski Town U.S.A., the 1996-1997 record of 447.75 inches of snow could be broken.
