Wintergreen currently has 11 of 25 slopes open, but with temps likely to drop into single digits this week, expect all terrain to open some time in the next week or two.
The mountain has invested several million dollars into a computerized snow making system to control their 400 plus guns. Weather stations dispersed around the mountain measure temperature and humidity, relaying the data to technicians. When optimum snow-making conditions occur, the guns can begin blowing snow within minutes.
Though temperatures have not always been cooperative this season, the advanced system has allowed Wintergreen to remain open since Dec. 9, save for a few days.
