Hold up. It's not over 'til it's over. A late season wintry blast that the National Weather Service predicts could drop up to a foot of heavy spring snow across portions of Northern New England's mountain peaks this weekend (May 1-2, 2010), is already falling.
The good news for Eastern skiers and riders who haven't yet traded in their skis and boards for bikes and golf clubs is Vermont's Jay Peak and Maine's Sugarloaf are waiting for you for one last gasp weekend.
Jay Peak's Gage O'Donnell told The Burlington Free Press the resort had planned to be open for this final weekend, but the solid snow prediction meant the resort would now open Thursday (April 29, 2010) and stay open through Sunday. The first inch of the storm had already landed by mid-morning Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Sugarloaf in Maine will be open through Sunday, as well. Always check first, but it's looking mighty good for all you diehards.
