Heavenly Mountain Resort serves as one of Lake Tahoe's prime summer destinations. Its location on the south end of the lake perches it high above the blue water for panoramic views of the area. Bring the camera; you're sure to shoot off lots of pixels.

Heavenly opens 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. for daily sightseeing through Sept. 7 with one of the biggest, most intimate views of Lake Tahoe. A new Heavenly Summit Ticket introduced last summer allows sightseers to ride the gondola and the Tamarack Express to 9,725 feet elevation to enjoy the views swooping nearly 3,500 feet down to lake level. The ticket costs $38 for adults, $32 for teens, and $24 for children. Children four years old and younger ride free.

The summit area offers hiking trails for those looking for exercise with the view. Three hiking trails are available. A Guided Eco Walk offers a 1.5-mile interpretive walk with lunch to learn about Lake Tahoe, its native plants, wildlife, and people. The guided walk costs $65 for adults, $55 for teens, and $50 for children.

Adventure Peak bustles with summer activities for families. Its two most popular activities include the Spider Climber and the multi-level climbing wall.

Heavenly restaurants open for summer dining with a view. Cafe Blue serves snacks and drinks on the observation deck of the gondola. The Adventure Peak BBQ and the Umbrella Bar open daily at the top of the gondola.
