Squaw Valley turns into an high alpine playground in summer. The Cable Car zips riders 2,000 feet up to High Camp for fun at 8,200 feet in elevation.
High Camp and the Cable Car open for pool fun through May 9 and then re-open June 19 through Sept. 19 for summer. The High Camp Swimming Lagoon and Spa offer a place to swim laps or soak. The free-form pool, which is surrounded by boulders and waterfalls, contains two island and 25-meter lap lanes for those who are serious about swimming exercise. The oversized hot tub is heated to 102 degrees.
A poolside cafe offers light dining on soup, salad, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps for lunch or dinner. You can sit inside or outside, and you can order umbrella drinks to make the alpine beach scene complete.
Squaw's outdoor Olympic Ice Pavilion, which sits adjacent to the pools and sundeck, opens for ice skating in summer, too. Hockey or figure skates are available to rent. Those skating garner a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks as well as Lake Tahoe in the distance.
The Cable Car runs night operations during the summer July 2 through August 19. You can catch a ride up for dining, stargazing, the sunset, or full moon hiking.
