Whitefish Mountain Resort wraps up its winter ski and snowboard and prepares for summer season. The popular zipline tours return to the resort in late May, but with two additional lines.

"Fly with joy," Kjell Petersen, a Whitefish guide, launched riders onto the ziplines when OnTheSnow.com visited last fall. We sat in bomber paraglider-type harnesses, a bit timid on the test line, to zip through the air. Confidence grew on the second line. By the third, we flew up to 50 miles per hour with hands and arms out while sailing through the air.

The resort launched its zipline tours last summer, but the tours proved so popular that crews added two new lines to the collection for this summer. The three-hour guided tours fly riders across six ziplines. One of the new lines carries riders 300 feet above the ground.

The tours run daily June 19 through Labor Day. Several tours go out each day. Tours are also available weekends in September. Reservations are recommended. Prices will be available online later in spring.

Summer season brings on a flurry of other activity at the resort, too. Scenic lift rides reach the top of the mountain where views of Glacier National Park's ragged skyline stretch above huckleberry-covered slopes. The lift also services mountain bike riders and hikers to access separate trails down from the summit. Other summer activities include the alpine slide and Walk in the Treetops, a 2.5-hour traverse through the forest canopy. Activities other than the zipline tours are available daily June 26 through Labor Day and weekends through Sept. 26.

The resort also offers summer lodging specials with free nights. You can buy three nights and get a fourth night free, or buy four nights and get a fifth night free. Those who purchase five nights of lodging can get a sixth and seventh night free. The specials are available through Sept. 26, but must be booked before July 4.
