Powder Mountain's 2nd Annual Spring Session presents the Trifecta of Shred April 2-3, 2010.  Surfers, skateboarders, and snowboarders will compete in three separate competitions with the overall winner reigning as the 2010 Chairman of the Boards.

The ever popular Spring Session is the highlight of the freestyle season with a freestyle terrain and halfpipe jam session at the Hidden Lake Terrain Park.

"The Spring Session is the original slopestyle comp and has set the stage for all other events at the resort," said Dave Jessup, Terrain Parks Manager.  "The Hidden Lake Park has continually evolved this year with new rails, jumps and walls.  If you haven't made it to the park lately, you will be surprised."

The event kicks off Friday with an indoor skateboarding competition from 6- 9 p.m. at Crossroads Skate Park. The competitors move to Flowrider in downtown Ogden for the surfing contest from 9 to 11 p.m. The event will culminate Saturday with the Spring Session at Powder Mountain.  Athletes may compete in only one or two events, but must enter all three to be crowned Chairman of the Boards.

Organizers include surfing and skateboarding into the competitive mix since interest in these sports resulted in the creation of the winter version of freestyle. The Trifecta of Shred gives snowboarders an opportunity to show their respect to their ancestral roots.

The competition will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with live music starting at 11 a.m. Registration is free for anyone with a valid Powder Mountain lift pass and $15 for anyone else.  The TRUTH, Skull Candy, Fuel TV, XBalm, Rockwell, iFLY Utah, Kahuna Creations, Smith Optics, Cartel, Bonfire, Salomon, Odeus, Powder Mountain, Crossroads Skate and Shop, and Flowrider Utah are sponsors of the competition.

Whether you compete in the Trifecta or just want to shred Powder Mountain, you can do it for less for the rest of the season. All season pass holders from any ski resort worldwide. Simply show a current season pass at any Powder Mountain ticket window on Monday through Friday to purchase an adult all area pass for $40, a 31 percent discount.

Local residents who do not own a season pass can save some bucks by showing their Utah driver's license. Weekday prices for local residents are $45 for an adult pass and $30 for seniors ages 62 to 69.

Spring also brings corn snow to the backcountry served by Powder Mountain's Snowcat Powder Safari. The price is $330 per person. The Snowcat Powder Safari continues running long after the lift-served ski resort closes, so the price will be reduced a second time to $175 per person April 15.

Two new deals for beginners, intermediates, and parkrats are at the ticket windows this spring. Buy a lift ticket for Snowbasin's Littlecat Express and Becker lifts only. The pass will provide great intermediate terrain for those that are not interested in an all mountain ticket, and is perfect for access to the pipe and intermediate terrain park. $35 for all ages. For $39, newbies can get a two-hour beginner lesson, rentals, and a Littlecat ticket. All ages welcome, with no blackout dates but the package must be purchased through the Snowsports Learning Center. Group lessons are held twice each day - 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
