The Serre Chevalier Derby - a freeride event for skiers, snowboarders, monoskiers, and telemarkers - returns Sunday, March 28.

This will mark the third edition of the Serre Che Derby. The freeride competition takes place on three or four runs and is accompanied by music and exhibitors.

It's an early start: 7-8 a.m. Sunday, March 28 is the allocation of race numbers at the UCPA Grand Serre Che in Villeneuvre.

Anyone can enter, simply log-on to the Web site, print off the rules and regulations, sign and send back to the Serre Chevalier Tourist Office.

Another highlight of the spring ski season in Serre Chevalier is the Jazz and Gospel Easter Festival. This evening gala takes place 8:30 p.m. in Chantemerle and features Serge Felix Tchicaya dit Zola Jazz.

Serre Chevalier's ski area is open until April 24. It offers a total of 250 kilometres of runs divided in to 108 pistes for all levels of skier and snowboarder (24 green, 31 blue, 38 red, and 14 black).

The resort comprises 13 ski villages and is spread over four areas: Briancon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve la Salle, and La Monetier les Bains. The ski area is particularly popular with families.
