Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia closed its alpine lifts for the season March 21 despite a record 250 inches of snow so far this season. The amount surpassed its average of 160 inches. There still is plenty of snow in West Virginia even though fog and higher temperatures during the past week or so gnawed away at the base that has been building up all winter.
Elsewhere in Canaan Valley, Timberline Resort plans to stay open through Sunday, March 28. Lift ticket prices are reduced. An all day adult pass costs $31 midweek and $36 on the weekend. Rentals are 19 midweek and $22 on the weekend. Junior rates are $21 for an all day ticket midweek and $25 on the weekend. Rentals are $14 and $17 respectively. Timberline is a privately owned resort with slope side lodging available.
Snowshoe Resort recently extended its season through April 5. Midweek lodging packages start at $77 per night through March 28. The resort is offering free skiing March 29 through the closing date with a two night or more stay. Rentals are $15. Those with a valid 2009-10 season pass from other resorts can get a day lift ticket for $20 through April 5.
